Word Processing and Productivity
Library Books – Did you know that you can check out e-books from the library for free? Lots of libraries participate. You can read them on a Kindle or download the Kindle App (for PC, iPad and more for free). This is the main website: http://libraryconnection.lib.overdrive.com/
Open Office (FOSS) - from http://www.openoffice.org. This is a lot like Microsoft $300+ Microsoft Office package. It’s mostly compatible with it and works pretty well. I’ve installed it on people computers and most don’t know the difference.
Microsoft Office (Commercial) - If you really need Microsoft Office for your home computer, you can buy Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition for $124.99 from Newegg and can install it on upto three computers : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116856
Microsoft Office Online (Commercial, but Free) – You can also create and edit real Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents online for free by using a live.com account. You get a free 25 GB (called SkyDrive) account and they have pretty full featured online versions of these programs. You can also download something called Mesh that allows you to backup up to 5 GB of files from your computer for free. Just go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/web-apps/ and sign up for free.
PDFCreator (FOSS) – This program is pretty awesome. It install a PDF Printer on your scomputer. Afterwards, you can take any document (say a Word document) and “print it” to a PDF file. Useful in many circumstances. http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
Antivirus and Security
Microsoft Security Essentials (Commercial, but Free) – If you have a Windows computer viruses and other malware can be a problem. Most people don’t need all of the fluff that you get with some of the Internet security packages. Security Essentials provides a really good level of protection for your computer completely free and is from the manufacturer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-ess...
***G Free Antivirus (Commercial, but Free) – ***G makes a great and fast security product and gives away the basics here: http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage Click the big orange link. It’s been free for years and works really, really well.
Avast (Commercial, but Free) – Another free antivirus tool. I haven’t personally used this one: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
Media
VLC Media Player (FOSS) – This is an awesome video player software can play just about any file, including CDs and has tons of options (slow motion, loop a piece of a movie, set bookmarks, and tons of other things). It also plays movies in higher quality. It’s totally free at: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
K-Lite Codec Pack (Unsure) – This will help your computer be able to view as many video formats as possible. Codecs are software that helps compress video so that it can be more easily stored; there are many different ones and having the most common ones on your computer goes a long way. Download at least the standard pack here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm (mega is okay also).
Audacity (FOSS) – Audacity is free audio editing software. You can take, for example, two MP3s and mix them together, to cut out a piece of an audio file, and I’m sure some more advanced things: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
OK, I think that’s it for now (although I have a lot more). Does anyone else have some great, free software? If you are looking for something specific I’m sure the geeks among us can help recommend something.

CCEnhancer- It Enhances the Program. Best thing to do is Save it to your desktop so you can have a easy way for the updater. CCEnhancer
If you're a fan of CCleaner, the best clean-up tool you can find anywhere, you'll be a fan of free CCEnhancer as well. As the name says, it enhances CCleaner's already considerable capabilities
In case you haven't yet used the popular and well-reviewed CCleaner, here's a thumbnail sketch: It deletes unneeded files, erases your browsing tracks, kills unwanted cookies, and kills unnecessary files associated with a variety of programs, including all popular browsers, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and many others. It also includes a startup monitor, uninstaller, and other useful tools. (Related products from developer Piriform include defragger Defraggler, undelete program Recuva, and system info utility Speccy.)
CCEnhancer integrates directly into CCleaner, so much so that you may not even notice that CCEnhancer is running. It gives CCleaner the ability to clean the traces of more applications than CCleaner can normally handle--dozens of them, including Microsoft Works, LogMeIn, Ashampoo Burning Studio, and many others. CCEnhancer puts asterisks next to any programs in the CCleaner list that it gives CCleaner the ability to clean. Check the box next to any program whose traces you want cleaned, and CCleaner will clean them, along with the programs it normally cleans.
